Could a zapping suit boost weight loss? new study tests muscle stimulation and diet
NCT ID NCT07675382
First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study investigates whether adding whole-body electrical muscle stimulation (WB-EMS) to a calorie-restricted diet improves body composition and metabolic health in women with obesity. Participants follow an 8-week diet plan, with half also receiving twice-weekly 20-minute WB-EMS sessions using a full-body suit. Researchers measure changes in weight, body fat, muscle mass, blood sugar, cholesterol, and certain muscle-related proteins to see if the combination offers extra benefits over diet alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Whole-body electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) plus hypocaloric diet
What this could lead to
If effective, this combination could offer a time-efficient, non-drug approach to improve weight loss and metabolic health in women with obesity.
What could go wrong
This is a small, 8-week study with only 44 participants, so results may not apply widely. The added benefit of WB-EMS over diet alone remains uncertain.
