VR headsets could make vasectomies less stressful
NCT ID NCT07055178
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using a virtual reality (VR) headset with a guided meditation app during a vasectomy can lower pain, anxiety, and distress. About 90 adult men will be randomly assigned to either use VR or receive standard care. They will answer short questionnaires before, during, and after the procedure to compare their experiences.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Virtual reality guided meditation (TRIPP app on MetaQuest 3 headset)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help men feel more relaxed and less pain during vasectomies.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study (90 participants) testing a distraction technique, so results may not apply to everyone. VR may not reduce pain for all patients.
