First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using virtual reality can help relieve stomach pain and other symptoms in people with functional dyspepsia, a condition where the stomach feels upset without a clear cause. Researchers at Mayo Clinic will enroll 30 adults who meet specific criteria. Participants will use a VR device, and the team will measure changes in pain and overall symptom scores using a standard questionnaire.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
virtual reality
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to reduce stomach pain and discomfort for people with functional dyspepsia.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 30 people, so results may not apply to everyone. VR might not ease symptoms for all, and side effects like dizziness are possible.
