Shake it off: vibration therapy may boost bone health after knee surgery
NCT ID NCT06988033
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether whole-body vibration therapy, alone or combined with exercise, can improve bone health and physical function in women with low bone density who have had a total knee replacement. Forty-eight women will be randomly assigned to vibration only, vibration plus exercise, or standard rehab. Researchers will measure bone turnover markers, mobility, strength, and pain over 12 weeks after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Whole-body vibration therapy
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple, drug-free way to help women regain strength and protect bone after knee replacement.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 48 participants. The vibration protocols are experimental, and results may not apply to all patients. There is also a risk that adding vibration does not improve outcomes over standard rehab.
