NCT ID NCT06068491
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing a telemedicine program called Vet-CALD for Veterans with advanced liver disease. The program pairs patients with a nurse care counselor who helps them understand their illness, set personal health goals, and coordinate care between their regular doctors and specialists. The goal is to see if this approach increases the number of Veterans considered for liver transplants and ensures their care matches their preferences. The study will enroll 450 Veterans across multiple VA sites.

- What this could lead to
- If successful, this program could improve how Veterans with advanced liver disease receive care, increasing their chances of being considered for a liver transplant and having their care preferences respected.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage study focused on care coordination, not a new treatment. It may not directly improve health outcomes, and results may not apply outside the VA system.
