Sound waves could replace surgery for stiff heart valves

Summary

This study is testing a new device that uses focused ultrasound pulses from outside the body to soften calcified heart valves in people with severe aortic stenosis. About 200 participants who cannot or choose not to have standard valve replacement will be followed for 12 months to see if the treatment is safe and improves heart function and quality of life.
