Tiny study aims to Fine-Tune breathing machines for Heart-Lung bypass patients

NCT ID NCT07141524

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how well air and blood mix in the lungs of 10 adults on a heart-lung bypass machine (VA ECMO). Researchers will adjust the breathing machine settings using special monitoring tools to see if they can improve oxygen levels. The goal is to gather information, not to test a new drug or treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward better ventilator settings for patients on heart-lung bypass, potentially improving oxygen delivery and lung recovery.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early study with only 10 participants. It is not designed to prove a treatment works, only to gather measurements. Results may not apply to all patients.
