Battle of the bacteria busters: triple vs quadruple therapy for stomach bug
NCT ID NCT07010744
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two different drug combinations to treat Helicobacter pylori, a stomach bacteria that can cause indigestion. About 66 adults with dyspepsia will receive either a triple therapy (amoxicillin, clarithromycin, esomeprazole) or a quadruple therapy (bismuth, metronidazole, tetracycline, esomeprazole) for 14 days. Researchers will check which treatment clears the infection better and track any side effects reported by patients.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin, Esomeprazole (triple therapy) vs Bismuth subcitrate, Metronidazole, Tetracycline, Esomeprazole (quadruple therapy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show which treatment is more effective at clearing H. pylori infection, helping doctors choose the best option for patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 66 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Side effects from the drugs are possible, and the study may not find a clear winner.
