A supplement may tame the Gut-Wrenching side effects of h. pylori therapy

NCT ID NCT07729293

First seen Jul 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 27, 2026

Summary

This trial tests whether a dietary supplement called Pylori Duo, which contains probiotics and licorice extract, can reduce gastrointestinal side effects from standard H. pylori treatment and help prevent the infection from coming back. About 140 adults with confirmed H. pylori infection will receive standard quadruple therapy plus either Pylori Duo or a placebo for 10 days, followed by the supplement or placebo alone for three months. Researchers will track side effects, eradication rates, and recurrence over a year.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
a dietary supplement containing Lactobacillus rhamnosus and dried licorice extract, called Pylori Duo
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a way to make standard H. pylori treatment easier to tolerate and lower the chance of the infection returning.
What could go wrong
This is a single-center trial with 140 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The supplement is tested alongside standard therapy, so its added benefit may be small.
