Scalp scans may reveal hidden clues in scleroderma patients

NCT ID NCT04804930

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple, non-invasive scalp exam called trichoscopy can help predict how severe systemic scleroderma is and whether it affects internal organs. Researchers will compare scalp images from 200 scleroderma patients and healthy volunteers. The goal is to find a new, easy way to monitor the disease without needles or scans.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide doctors with a simple, non-invasive way to monitor scleroderma severity and predict organ complications.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may find no clear link between scalp features and disease outcomes, limiting its practical use.
