Scientists probe immune Cells' role in scleroderma blood vessel injury
NCT ID NCT02636127
First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study looks at how certain immune cells, called T cells and NK cells, may harm blood vessels in people with systemic sclerosis (scleroderma). Researchers will analyze blood samples from 30 participants, including patients and healthy volunteers, to measure a protein called Fractalkine and study cell interactions. The goal is to better understand the disease, not to test a new treatment.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this research could point toward new treatment targets for systemic sclerosis by clarifying how immune cells injure blood vessels.
What could go wrong
This is a small, observational study with only 30 participants, so findings may not apply to all patients. It is early-stage research, not a treatment trial.
