First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at whether lumbar traction therapy (a device that gently pulls on the spine) can reduce pain and improve function in people with obesity and chronic low back pain. 49 participants received 30 minutes of traction daily for 4 weeks. Researchers measured pain, disability, and blood markers of spinal damage before and after treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

lumbar traction therapy (device)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a non-drug treatment option for chronic low back pain in people with obesity.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 49 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapy is short-term and effects may not last.
