Can a mind-body combo ease chronic back pain and sleeplessness?
NCT ID NCT07766616
First seen Aug 14, 2026 ยท Last updated Aug 14, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether adding Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to standard physiotherapy helps adults with chronic low back pain more than physiotherapy alone. About 64 adults aged 18-55 with non-specific low back pain lasting over 3 months will be randomly assigned to either ACT plus physiotherapy or physiotherapy alone for 8 weeks. The study measures changes in pain catastrophizing, disability, stress, and sleep quality to see if combining psychological and physical rehabilitation offers extra benefits.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) added to a standard physiotherapy program
- What this could lead to
- If it works, combining ACT with physiotherapy could offer a more effective way to reduce pain-related distress, disability, and sleep problems in people with chronic low back pain.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with 64 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The added benefit of ACT over physiotherapy alone remains uncertain, and individual responses can vary.
