First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study tested a new, non-invasive treatment for major depression called transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM), which uses near-infrared light on the forehead. 50 adults with depression received either real or sham light therapy three times a week for six weeks. The goal was to see if the light treatment could safely reduce depression symptoms and improve brain function, as measured by brain scans and mood questionnaires.
