New online therapy aims to ease cancer Survivors' fear of recurrence
NCT ID NCT04287218
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests an online cognitive therapy program, guided by a therapist, to help colorectal cancer survivors who have finished treatment reduce their fear of the cancer returning. The program includes educational text, exercises, and videos. Researchers will compare it to standard care in 200 Danish survivors to see if it lowers anxiety and improves well-being.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
therapist-guided internet-delivered cognitive therapy (TG-iConquerFear)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide an accessible, effective way to help colorectal cancer survivors manage fear of recurrence, improving their quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial in one country, and the intervention requires internet access and Danish literacy. The therapy may not work for everyone, and results may not apply to other cancer types or populations.
