Shoulder surgery recovery: online PT may be just as good as In-Person
NCT ID NCT05499728
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at whether doing physical therapy online (telerehabilitation) works as well as going to a clinic in person after shoulder replacement surgery. 93 patients were randomly assigned to either online or in-person therapy. Researchers measured shoulder movement, pain, and patient-reported outcomes to see if there were any differences between the two groups.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
telerehabilitation (physical therapy via online video conferencing)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that online physical therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions after shoulder replacement, giving patients a more convenient and flexible recovery option.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with 93 participants. The results may not apply to all shoulder surgery patients, and online therapy may not suit everyone, especially those with limited internet access or needing hands-on guidance.
