Dermatologist on call: could teledermatology save patients from unnecessary hospital stays?
NCT ID NCT03036358
First seen Apr 14, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study looked at whether having a dermatologist review patients remotely (teledermatology) could help emergency room doctors better distinguish cellulitis (a real skin infection) from pseudocellulitis (a condition that looks like cellulitis but isn't). The goal was to see if this approach could reduce unnecessary hospital admissions, shorten hospital stays, lower 30-day readmission rates, and cut down on antibiotic use. The study involved 30 adults who came to the ER with symptoms like redness, swelling, and tenderness.
