Can a Heat-Energy device ease sciatica pain? new trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07480252
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether Tecar therapy, a non-invasive device that delivers high-frequency electromagnetic energy to deep tissues, can reduce pain and disability in people with lumbar radiculopathy (sciatica). Ninety adults with recent-onset symptoms will be randomly assigned to receive either conventional physical therapy, Tecar therapy plus physical therapy, or a sham Tecar treatment plus physical therapy. Pain levels, function, and mobility will be measured over 12 weeks to see if Tecar provides added benefit.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Tecar therapy (a non-invasive device that delivers high-frequency electromagnetic energy to deep tissues)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a new, non-invasive option to reduce pain and improve function in people with lumbar radiculopathy.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial (90 participants) with no blinding for the physical therapy group, so results may not be conclusive or widely applicable.
