New dialyzer aims to cut down on dialysis symptoms
NCT ID NCT06032208
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a new type of dialyzer, called Theranova, can help reduce common symptoms like pain, fatigue, and poor sleep in people with end-stage renal disease who are on dialysis. About 100 participants will use their usual dialyzer for the first 4 weeks and then switch to the Theranova dialyzer for 24 weeks, reporting their symptoms through a simple app. The goal is to see if removing larger toxins from the blood improves how patients feel.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Theranova dialyzer (a device used during hemodialysis to remove larger toxins)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could lead to better symptom management and improved quality of life for people on dialysis.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage extension study with no control group, so results may not be conclusive. The new dialyzer may not significantly improve symptoms compared to standard care.
