New scan may spare prostate cancer patients from unnecessary surgery

Summary
This study tests whether a combined PET/MRI scan can accurately detect if prostate cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes. About 50 men with high-risk prostate cancer who are scheduled for prostate removal surgery will receive the scan beforehand. If the scan proves reliable, some men may be able to safely skip the additional lymph node removal surgery, reducing side effects.
