New stroke care program aims to cut complications and boost recovery
NCT ID NCT07627399
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a nurse-led program called BEST CARE ICTUS_HC for adults hospitalized with acute stroke in hospitals without specialized stroke units. The program includes staff training, swallowing tests, and environmental adaptations to help with attention and safety. Researchers will compare outcomes like swallowing detection, neglect severity, and quality of life up to 6 months after discharge between patients receiving the program and those receiving usual care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
BEST CARE ICTUS_HC bundle (nurse training, swallowing screening, environmental adaptations, and monitoring protocols)
What this could lead to
If successful, this program could reduce complications like pneumonia and improve quality of life for stroke patients in general hospitals.
What could go wrong
This is a cluster-randomized trial testing a care bundle, not a new drug. Results may vary across hospitals and may not apply to all stroke patients.
