Simple stress ball or hand massage could ease anxiety during eye surgery
NCT ID NCT07522034
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using a stress ball or receiving a hand massage during eye surgery can lower patients' anxiety, pain, and stress levels. 174 adults having eye surgery under local anesthesia will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: stress ball, hand massage, or standard care. Researchers will measure vital signs and self-reported anxiety and pain to see if these simple, drug-free methods help patients feel more comfortable.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help patients feel calmer and less pain during eye surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with no blinding, so results may be influenced by patient expectations. The interventions are very simple and may not produce a strong effect.
