New trial aims to stop infections in blood cancer patients

NCT ID NCT07202091

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares different ways to prevent infections in people with blood cancers like myeloma, leukemia, and lymphoma. About 900 participants will receive either daily antibiotics or immunoglobulin therapy, or a combination. The goal is to see which approach works best to keep patients infection-free and reduce the need for emergency care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (co-trimoxazole) or doxycycline, plus amoxicillin/clavulanic acid and ciprofloxacin

What this could lead to

If successful, this could identify the best way to prevent serious infections in people with blood cancers, reducing hospital visits and improving quality of life.

What could go wrong

This is an early-to-mid-stage trial, so results may not apply to all patients. Antibiotics can cause side effects like allergic reactions or resistance, and immunoglobulin may not be better than stopping it.
