Virtual groups aim to ease the hidden burden of illness stigma
NCT ID NCT05561595
Summary
This study is testing whether group counseling can help people who feel shame or stigma because of their health condition. Researchers are enrolling 195 adults with conditions like obesity, cancer, HIV, diabetes, or chronic pain who report feeling stigmatized. Participants will try either a special counseling group, a general peer support group, or be placed on a waitlist, to see which approach best reduces feelings of stigma and improves quality of life.
