Precision radiation may offer new hope for lung cancer that spread to the brain
NCT ID NCT05419076
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), a precise form of radiation, can effectively treat brain metastases in people newly diagnosed with small cell lung cancer that has spread to the brain. About 62 participants will receive SRS, and researchers will track how many are alive after 6 months. The goal is to see if SRS can control the brain tumors while avoiding the side effects of whole-brain radiation.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) – a precise, high-dose radiation treatment
What this could lead to
If successful, SRS could become a standard treatment option for people with brain metastases from small cell lung cancer, potentially improving survival and reducing side effects compared to whole-brain radiation.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-arm Phase 2 study with only 62 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. SRS may not control all brain metastases, and some patients may still need additional treatments.
