Spinal zap may help Parkinson's patients stuck in place

NCT ID NCT06630702

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a temporary spinal cord stimulator can help people with advanced Parkinson's disease who experience freezing of gait—a sudden inability to move their feet—that doesn't respond to medication. Five participants will receive the device, which delivers mild electrical pulses to the spinal cord, and researchers will measure changes in walking patterns and fall risk. The goal is to see if this approach can improve stability and quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

spinal cord stimulation device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new way to help Parkinson's patients with freezing of gait walk more steadily and reduce fall risk.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early study with only 5 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The device is temporary and not yet a standard treatment.
