Could a simple dialysis change save ICU kidneys?

NCT ID NCT03329313

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looks at whether using a lower sodium concentration (140 mmol/l) in dialysis fluid can prevent dangerous fluid buildup in ICU patients with acute kidney injury, compared to the standard higher level (145 mmol/l). About 158 adults on a slow, daily dialysis method will be randomly assigned to one of the two sodium levels. The goal is to find a balance that keeps blood pressure stable without causing extra fluid retention.
