Could an enema flush out kidney toxins? new study investigates
NCT ID NCT07394920
First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study tests whether a sodium bicarbonate enema can help relieve constipation and reduce harmful waste products (uremic toxins) in people with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The idea is to use the gut as an extra route to remove toxins that damaged kidneys can't clear. The study will enroll 100 adults with moderate to advanced CKD (stages 3-4) who are not yet on dialysis.
