Smokers' nicotine addiction linked to gum disease ignorance

NCT ID NCT07457892

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study explored whether how addicted a person is to nicotine affects their awareness of having gum disease. Researchers examined 350 smokers with gingivitis or periodontitis, measuring their nicotine dependence with a standard test and asking about their gum health. The goal was to see if more dependent smokers are less aware of their gum problems, which could help improve education and treatment.
