Smokers' nicotine addiction linked to gum disease ignorance

NCT ID NCT07457892

First seen Mar 14, 2026 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This completed study looked at 350 smokers with gum disease (gingivitis or periodontitis) to see if their level of nicotine dependence affects how aware they are of their gum condition. Researchers used a questionnaire to measure nicotine addiction and checked gum health through dental exams. The goal was to understand if stronger nicotine dependence makes people less likely to recognize they have gum disease.
