Double trouble: sleep apnea plus COPD may worsen Veterans' brain function

NCT ID NCT02703207

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 05, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study looks at older veterans who have both sleep apnea and COPD to see if having both conditions leads to worse memory, attention, and thinking problems than having just one. Researchers will also test whether treating sleep apnea with a breathing machine (PAP) plus extra oxygen helps improve brain function and quality of life more than PAP alone. About 108 veterans aged 60 and older will take part.
