Could your own cells fix your shoulder arthritis?
NCT ID NCT02844738
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a treatment made from a patient's own cells (StroMed) and platelet-rich plasma can reduce pain and inflammation from shoulder osteoarthritis. The first 50 participants will receive injections, and then up to 4,000 more will join to confirm safety and effectiveness. Researchers will track changes in shoulder function, pain, and even look for cartilage regrowth on MRI scans.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- StroMed (a patient's own regenerative cells) plus platelet-rich plasma (PRP)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a new way to reduce pain and improve shoulder function without surgery or long-term medication.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early Phase 2 study with no placebo group, so results may be due to chance. The larger follow-up may not confirm benefits, and risks like infection or injection-site reactions are possible.
