New hope for IBD patients: switching to guselkumab after ustekinumab fails

NCT ID NCT07245394

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This Canadian study is testing whether switching to the drug guselkumab (Tremfya) can help people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) who didn't respond well enough to ustekinumab. Researchers will track symptoms, test results, and overall health in 200 participants over one year. The goal is to see if this switch can lead to better disease control without worsening endoscopic findings.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Guselkumab (Tremfya)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that switching to guselkumab is a good option for people with IBD who didn't get enough relief from ustekinumab, offering better symptom control.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so results may be less definitive. It's also relatively small (200 people) and only follows participants for one year, so long-term benefits or risks are unknown.
