First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a single 3-hour group therapy session based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) could prevent mental health disorders in 120 women recently displaced by war in Ukraine. The women had mild to moderate symptoms of anxiety or depression. The goal was to see if this brief intervention could stop symptoms from getting worse or developing into full disorders.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) group session

What this could lead to

If successful, this brief therapy could offer a scalable way to prevent anxiety and depression in women displaced by war.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with 120 participants. Results may not apply to all displaced women, and the single-session format may not be enough for lasting effects.
