Could ozempic help control diabetes in spinal cord injury patients?
NCT ID NCT06706284
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether semaglutide (Ozempic), a drug used for type 2 diabetes, works well for people with spinal cord injury (SCI) who also have diabetes. SCI patients are at higher risk for diabetes, but it's unclear if standard treatments are effective. The trial will measure blood sugar control and weight loss in 50 adults with SCI and type 2 diabetes, comparing semaglutide to a placebo.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide an effective diabetes treatment option tailored for people with spinal cord injury, who are at higher risk for type 2 diabetes.
What could go wrong
This is a small Phase 4 trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Semaglutide can cause side effects like nausea and vomiting.
