Writing your values before doctor visits may ease diabetes stigma
NCT ID NCT06348238
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a self-affirmation writing exercise—where people write about their core values—before routine diabetes checkups can reduce feelings of stigma and improve diabetes management. About 150 adults with type 2 diabetes who already use continuous glucose monitors will be randomly assigned to do the exercise or a shorter version. Researchers will track stigma, motivation, and blood sugar control over a year.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Self-affirmation writing exercise
What this could lead to
If it works, this simple writing exercise could help people with type 2 diabetes feel less stigmatized and more motivated to manage their condition.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage behavioral study. The benefits may be modest, and results may not apply to all people with diabetes.
