Liver metastases showdown: radiation vs. microwave ablation in new trial

NCT ID NCT03654131

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two minimally invasive treatments—microwave ablation and stereotactic body radiation therapy—for colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver. About 100 patients with 1 to 3 liver tumors that cannot be surgically removed will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. The goal is to see which approach better controls tumor growth in the liver and has fewer side effects.
