New balloon shows promise in opening hardened heart blockages

Summary
This study tested a tiny balloon catheter designed to open completely blocked heart arteries (chronic total occlusions) before placing a stent. 170 adults with coronary artery disease took part. The main goal was to see if the balloon could be safely delivered, inflated, and removed without causing serious damage. Patients were followed for 24 hours after the procedure.
