Sound therapy shows promise for calming trauma symptoms

NCT ID NCT04999852

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 08, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This small pilot study tested the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), a passive listening program, in 45 adults with PTSD or anxiety. Participants listened to specially filtered music as a 'neural exercise' to help regulate their body's stress response. The study measured changes in PTSD and anxiety symptoms using standard questionnaires, along with pulse readings, before, during, and after the 5-hour program. This was an observational study to prepare for a future larger trial, not a treatment that aims to cure the condition.
