Cold rinse after root canal may ease pain, study tests best technique
NCT ID NCT07500870
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at two ways to clean root canals (rotary vs. reciprocating files) and whether rinsing with very cold saline (cryotherapy) reduces pain after the procedure. Sixty adults with infected but painless teeth will be randomly assigned to one of four groups. Patients will rate their pain at different times, and X-rays after six months will check healing. The goal is to find which method causes less discomfort and better recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- cryotherapy (cold saline rinse)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help dentists choose techniques that reduce pain after root canal treatment and improve healing, potentially lowering the need for painkillers.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The benefits of cryotherapy or one instrumentation method may be minimal or not statistically significant.
