Can a gentler root canal save more tooth and still heal infection?
NCT ID NCT07762248
First seen Aug 13, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial asks whether a minimally invasive root canal procedure can match the success of the traditional approach in treating lower molars with dead nerves and an infected root tip. Sixty adults aged 20 to 50 with such molars will be randomly assigned to receive either a conservative or a standard root canal treatment. Over 12 months, the study will compare how well each method clears infection and promotes bone healing around the tooth root.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Root canal treatment (minimally invasive vs traditional procedure)
- What this could lead to
- If minimally invasive root canal treatment works as well as the traditional approach, it could preserve more natural tooth structure and improve recovery for people with infected molars.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small trial, and the minimally invasive approach may not disinfect the root canals as effectively, potentially leading to a higher risk of persistent infection or treatment failure.
