First seen Mar 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 24, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study compares two methods for disinfecting root canals in teeth with apical periodontitis (an infection at the tooth root). Fifty adults with infected molars will receive either a laser-based disinfection or a standard protocol. The goal is to see which method reduces bacteria more effectively, measured by rapid ATP testing and lab analysis.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Er,Cr:YSGG laser (2780 nm) with radial-firing tip

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a more effective way to disinfect root canals, potentially improving outcomes for patients with apical periodontitis.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (50 participants) comparing two methods. Results may not apply to all teeth or patients, and the laser method may not prove superior to standard care.
