3D-Printed dental guide aims to boost precision in Root-End surgery
NCT ID NCT07734987
First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a custom 3D-printed surgical guide can improve the accuracy of apicoectomy—a procedure to remove the tip of a tooth root after a failed root canal. Participants will have the guided surgery and then report pain and swelling at 1, 3, and 7 days. At 6 months, scans will check how well the bone has healed and how precise the surgery was compared to the original plan.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a 3D-printed static surgical guide and trephine bur
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this approach could make apicoectomy more precise, reducing pain and improving healing after failed root canal treatment.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 11 participants, so results may not apply widely. The procedure still involves surgery and carries risks like infection or nerve damage.
