Robots to the rescue: can they handle emergency surgery?
NCT ID NCT07202442
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will test whether robotic surgery can be used for emergency abdominal operations, such as for severe gallbladder infections or bowel blockages. The goal is to see if it's feasible and if it can lower complication rates and shorten hospital stays compared to traditional surgery. Thirty patients will be enrolled at Nice University Hospital.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
robotic surgery
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that robotic surgery is a safe and effective option for emergency abdominal procedures, potentially reducing complications and hospital stays.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Robotic surgery in emergencies may be limited by technical challenges or patient stability.
