Breathing boost: new therapy aims to help ICU patients escape ventilators faster

NCT ID NCT06499389

First seen Jan 23, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether early, intensive breathing therapy can improve cough strength in ICU patients who have muscle weakness and struggle to come off a breathing machine. About 50 adults will be split into two groups: one gets standard care, the other gets extra breathing exercises with a device. The goal is to see if the therapy helps them cough stronger and breathe on their own sooner.
