Red light may ease radiation burns in children
NCT ID NCT07183267
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether daily red light therapy can prevent or reduce skin and mouth side effects in children aged 0-16 receiving radiation for cancer. About 248 kids will get a daily LED light treatment on the radiated area. Researchers will compare their side effects to those of similar past patients to see if the light therapy helps.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- red light therapy (photobiomodulation) via a LED device
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simple, painless way to prevent painful skin and mouth sores in children undergoing radiation therapy.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early study comparing results to past patients, not a randomized controlled trial. The treatment may not reduce side effects significantly, and daily sessions could be burdensome.
