Zapping heart trouble: radiation may replace needle procedure for dangerous rhythms
NCT ID NCT06360939
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares a single dose of targeted radiation (SBRT) to the standard catheter ablation procedure for reducing dangerous heart rhythms in people with advanced heart disease. Sixty participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. The main goal is to see if radiation can cut the number of heart rhythm episodes by at least 75% at six months, with fewer risks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- radiation therapy (stereotactic body radiation therapy, SBRT)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a non-invasive alternative to catheter ablation for controlling ventricular tachycardia in people with structural heart disease.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Radiation also carries risks like damage to nearby organs.
