Heart rhythm breakthrough? new ablation combo targets stubborn AFib

NCT ID NCT07445360

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two heart procedures for people with persistent atrial fibrillation (AFib) lasting 6 months to 3 years. One group gets standard pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) ablation, while the other gets PVI plus an extra ablation on the Bachmann bundle. The goal is to see which approach better keeps the heart in normal rhythm for at least a year. The trial plans to enroll 320 adults aged 18-75 across multiple centers.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
catheter ablation procedure
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more effective ablation strategy for persistent atrial fibrillation, potentially reducing recurrence and the need for repeat procedures.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study (not yet recruiting) with no phase specified. The added ablation may increase procedural risks without clear benefit, and results may not generalize to all patients.
