Psychodrama sessions lift postpartum depression and boost forgiveness in small study
NCT ID NCT07305571
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether 8 weeks of psychodrama group sessions could help new mothers with babies in the NICU feel less depressed and more forgiving. 23 women took part, with 11 attending the sessions and 12 receiving no extra support. Results showed that the psychodrama group had significantly lower depression scores and higher forgiveness scores afterward. While promising, the study is small and needs larger trials to confirm the benefits.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- psychodrama-based group intervention
- What this could lead to
- If this approach works, it could offer a non-drug way to ease postpartum depression and improve emotional healing for new mothers.
- What could go wrong
- This was a very small study (23 women) in one hospital, so results may not apply to everyone. The control group got no treatment, which can overstate benefits.
