Magic mushroom therapy tested for easing cancer Patients' mental anguish

NCT ID NCT05220046

Summary

This small, early-stage study is exploring whether a guided therapy session using psilocybin (the active compound in 'magic mushrooms') can help reduce severe depression, anxiety, and emotional distress in people with advanced pancreatic, bile duct, or other gastrointestinal cancers. The study will also observe a family member of each patient to see how their well-being is affected. The main goals are to see if researchers can successfully run this type of study and measure changes in patients' psychological symptoms one week after the therapy session.
