Knee pain relief without surgery? PRP injections tested against standard care
NCT ID NCT07016672
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) work better than hyaluronic acid (HA) for people with advanced knee osteoarthritis (grades III or IV). 150 participants will receive three injections of either PRP or HA and be followed for a year. The goal is to see which treatment reduces pain and improves knee function more.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and hyaluronic acid (HA)
What this could lead to
If PRP works better than HA, it could offer a longer-lasting, non-surgical option for people with advanced knee osteoarthritis who cannot have surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with no blinding, so results may be biased. PRP is not yet proven for advanced osteoarthritis, and benefits may be modest or temporary.
